Ken and Marcia Powers
No. 1 hiking expedition couple in the nation – 2010
No couple in America has completed more epic hiking expeditions than Ken and Marcia Powers. They gained world fame for being the first to complete the American Discovery Trail, 4,900 miles, from the East Coast to the West Coast, ending at Point Reyes National Seashore in 2005. In the past 10 years alone, other expeditions include the Continental Divide Trail, approx 3000 miles, in 2002, the 2,680-mile Pacific Crest Trail, the 212-mile John Muir Trail, the 165-mile Tahoe Rim Trail, the 2,200-mile Appalachian Trail, the 808-mile Arizona Trail and the 1,096-mile Idaho Centennial Trail. By completing the Pacific Crest, Continental Divide, and Appalachian trails they earned the goal of most long distancce hikers: the Triple Crowne of long distance hiking.Ken was the second male and Marcia the first female to thru hike the Idaho Centenial Trail.
In the offseason, they connect with the public at forums and seminars, and they have created a Web site to answer questions and form a long-distance hikers community. In the process, they inspired thousands to take part in the wilderness experience through their accomplishments and public outreach.
